Our Story

Transforming rural livelihoods.

Our Story

A Shared Belief

Rural Inclusion was born from a shared belief that technology and education can transform rural livelihoods. Joseph Lukwago, raised in a farming community in rural Uganda, experienced firsthand the challenges in accessing information and opportunity. After studying software development, he went on to serve as Private Secretary in the Government of Uganda, leading ICT in the Office of the Vice President.

Our Story

A Perfect Partnership

In 2019, Joseph met Jack Farren in the UK, an expert in insurance, digital finance and development communications. Together, they founded Rural Inclusion to bridge the awareness gap for rural communities across the world.

Rural Inclusion Labs is a social enterprise headquartered in the UK, focused on creating impactful digital learning experiences that strengthen rural communities worldwide.

Our Story

Engaging Learning Experiences

By translating complex ideas into clear, engaging learning experiences, we empower rural families to make informed choices about their finances, manage risk, and unlock pathways to sustainable growth.

Our Vision

A world where every rural household has the knowledge and tools to thrive financially, protect against risks, and plan for a sustainable future.

Our Mission

To empower rural communities through simple, engaging, and localised digital learning solutions, delivered through digital and offline channels with local partners.

As a certified Social Enterprise UK member, Rural Inclusion Labs is founded on the belief that business can be a force for good. Our work directly contributes to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Through every partnership and project, we focus on delivering measurable social impact and strengthening resilience in rural communities.

Our sister non-profit organisation, Rural Inclusion CIC, works to strengthen community-based organisations across Sub-Saharan Africa.

As a shareholder in Rural Inclusion Labs, the CIC ensures that community impact remains embedded at the core of our business model. Rural Inclusion CIC also benefits from free access to the technologies and digital tools we develop, alongside voluntary staff time dedicated to mentoring and building the capacity of local partners.
